Annotation:

Lake Svetloyar in the Nizhny Novgorod region is the most mysterious lake in Russia. Some scientists believe that it appeared from the impact of a large meteorite, others associate the appearance of the lake with a sudden displacement of the earth's crust. Locals endow the lake with an unearthly power, which once covered the legendary city of Kitezh with its waters. Svetloyar is sometimes called the "Russian Atlantis".

The main slogan of the 1960s is "We are building the future!"It seemed that the whole country was looking forward.

Hoary antiquity, especially since its secrets are not in fashion.

However, in the fall of 1968, Literaturnaya Gazeta published a series of unusual articles "The Riddle of the City of Kitezh" - a city that existed eight centuries ago.

The newspaper even organized an expedition to Lake Svetloyar, which lasted several years.

For scientists, Svetloyar is still a mystery.

What is the origin of the lake, its age?..

No one knows for sure.

Someone says that the lake is of karst origin, and someone is sure that a meteorite fell here.

The structure of the bottom is also a mystery: the basin of the lake looks like an inverted cone with ledges that once were shores.

In a report for Literaturka, the head of the expedition, journalist Mark Barinov wrote: "On one of the underwater terraces, a city or a settlement or a monastery could well be located, the immersion of which under water could serve as an impetus for the emergence of a legend."

The film starred lake scientist Nikolai Bayanov, a member of the expedition of the Literary Newspaper Alexander Orlov, Father Vladimir (rector of the Church in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God of the village of Vladimirskoye), director of the nature park "Voskresenskoye Povetluzhye" Alexey Groza, Grigory Barinov (son of Mark Barinov), teacher of the Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University Alexey Kiselyov, head of the Vetluzhskaya Archaeological expeditions Evgeny Chetvertakov, geologist Valery Nikishin, guslar Sergey Balakin, residents of the village of Vladimirskoye: Anna Korekina, Polina Migunova, Claudia Kamysheva, Nina Zhiltsova.
