In the USSR, only citizens of the Union republics were allowed to travel; all foreigners were to return to their homeland.
Then Luigi could not take Mokrin to Italy either.
After returning home, he went to work for the financial police and therefore could not search for his beloved, but he remembered her all his life and never married, did not start a family.
Only after many years, having learned through acquaintances that there was a television program in Russia that was looking for people all over the world, Luigi flew to Moscow to find his Maria, as he always called her.
They met in the studio program, then Luigi visited Ukraine several times.
In October 2005, Mokrina paid a return visit to Italy, the mayor personally greeted her, presented the war medal and said that from now on Maria is not just a guest, but a resident of Castel San Lorenzo.
However, Mokrina-Maria refused to move to Italy, said that she could not leave the farm, and she likes to live at home more than in "boring" Italy.
Luigi was thinking about buying a small house in Ukraine ...
In the film, Mokrin’s fellow villagers, Luigi’s friends and neighbors, as well as the inhabitants of St.
Pölten, shared their memories of the war.
